Littleton School Committee votes to hire Dr. Michael Caira as superintendent
LITTLETON — April 9, 2026 — Littleton School Committee selects Dr. Michael Caira as its next superintendent following a divided first vote and a unified second. The committee voted twice April 9 to offer Caira the position of Superintendent of Littleton Public Schools, subject to contract negotiation and with a target start date of July 1, 2026, to succeed outgoing Superintendent Kelly Clenchy. The first vote, on a motion by Vice Chair Binal Patel seconded by member Jeanine Wood, passed 3-2, with Chair Justin McCarthy and Clerk Elaine Santelmann dissenting. McCarthy then immediately moved a second identical motion — "to demonstrate a unified commitment to the new leadership," per the minutes — which passed unanimously 5-0. The committee recessed so McCarthy could phone Caira with the formal offer, then voted unanimously to dissolve the Superintendent Search Subcommittee before entering executive session to begin contract negotiation strategy at 8:29 p.m.
