League forum previews $38.6 million Wayland water plant vote

WAYLAND — April 29, 2026 — Wayland officials pitch $38.6 million water plant ahead of Monday town meeting. At the League of Women Voters issues forum, DPW Vice Chair Mike Wagenbarrow told residents none of Wayland's permitted water sources will meet the EPA's new 4-parts-per-trillion PFAS standard taking effect in 2029, and that the town's temporary filtering system has already failed three times this fiscal year. Article 15 would authorize borrowing for a granulated activated carbon treatment plant at Happy Hollow plus a permanent MWRA connection; the town has already spent more than $3.3 million on design. Select Board Chair Carol Martin warned that a no vote would forfeit a $7 million MWRA entrance-fee waiver and risk "catastrophic challenges." Town Moderator Miranda Jones also walked through two consent calendars and previewed Article 16's $200,000 study of 25 Holiday Road and Article 38's proposed cryptocurrency ATM ban.
