Landfill committee approves final report recommending field, bus parking, DPW center
WAYLAND — February 24, 2026 — Wayland landfill committee finalizes report pitching field, bus parking and DPW center for capped Route 20 site. The Route 20 South Landfill Visioning Committee voted 7-0 Tuesday to authorize Chair Tom Fay to finalize and submit its final report to the Select Board, capping roughly six years of study on the 17-acre parcel capped in 1980. The plan recommends a rectangular grass playing field without lighting, parking for 80 vehicles, school bus parking with potential EV charging, and a scaled Public Works materials center projected to save the town about $75,000 annually. Member Mike Spelman pushed for the report to document ongoing maintenance costs, while Acima Cherian asked for comparative field-rental data. Fay said a Weston & Sampson cost estimate, which members called "very thorough," will be added as an appendix. DPW Director Tom Holder has placed the project on the capital improvement plan for 2027 at roughly $500,000.
