Hopkinton Closes Town Hall, Library, and Schools for Juneteenth Friday
Town Hall, the Public Library, and the Senior Center will all be shuttered this Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth — and residents who rely on curbside trash and recycling pickup that day should plan for a one-day delay across the board.
**TOWN HALL**
The Juneteenth closure touches nearly every municipal service residents count on at the end of the week. Town Hall and all municipal offices, the Hopkinton Public Library, and the Hopkinton Senior Center will be closed Friday, June 19. The library will extend its closure through the weekend, remaining shut on Saturday, June 20, and Sunday, June 21 as well. Curbside trash and recycling collection is cancelled Friday; customers whose pickup normally falls that day should move their bins out Saturday instead, and all remaining routes shift one day later through the end of the week.
Separately, the town announced this week that Hopkinton will host a July 4 parade, flagging the celebration for residents making summer plans.
**SCHOOLS**
The district calendar is moving quickly toward the finish line. High school final exams begin Wednesday, June 18, with Exams 1 and 2 on the schedule. The district is also closed Friday, June 19, for Juneteenth. Exams continue June 22 and 23, with the final exam session and makeup day on June 24 — also the last day of school for grades K–11, with an early dismissal at 12:20 p.m. and no lunch served. Families of incoming kindergartners should note that Kindergarten Night is scheduled for both Tuesday, June 17, and Wednesday, June 18, from 6 to 6:30 p.m.
**COMMUNITY & ARTS**
The Hopkinton Public Library is flagging a practical heads-up for anyone planning a Thursday visit: the library parking lot will be closed all day June 18 due to utility work. Staff also note that the work may raise indoor temperatures, so patrons should plan accordingly and consider alternate parking nearby.
On the programming front, the library has a full week ahead. Tuesday, June 17 brings Preschool Storytellers at 10 a.m. in the Children's Programming Room, a Final Exams Study Hall from 2 to 7:30 p.m. in the Betty Strong Room, and Read to a Therapy Dog at 7 p.m. in the Children's Department. Wednesday, June 18 features a Parent-Child Playgroup at 10 a.m. and Lego & Pokémon Club at 4 p.m. Note that the D20's D&D Campaign scheduled for June 17 has been cancelled.
The library's June Guest Librarian spotlight features Ian Richardson, Administrative Assistant for the Town Clerk's office and Human Resources, who has put together a horror reading list together with his fiancé Ashleigh.
