Historical Commission endorses Eagle Scout sign, drafts Sherman's Bridge response

SUDBURY — February 10, 2026 — Sudbury Historical Commission finalizes Sherman's Bridge feedback and backs an Eagle Scout sign for the Haynes Garrison site. Working through DPW Director Tina Rivard's Jan. 20 responses, members under Chair Christopher Hagger objected to CCA-treated lumber over the river — "the A in CCA is arsenic," member William S Andreas said — and recommended a copper-based alternative, diagonal or transverse decking, steel-backed timber approach rails with National Park Service brown coating on any exposed metal posts, and three six-inch south-side boards to close a 15-inch deck gap. The commission also voted 7-0 to approve a town-wide Indigenous Cultural Landscape Study RFQ and is racing a March 4 Community Preservation Committee deadline to defend roughly $15,000 in 2004/2013 cemetery restoration funds, with member Kimberly Burns leading the effort. Eagle Scout Theo Bound, of 16 Rice Road, will return with revised plans after his March Historic Districts Commission hearing.
