Historical Commission clears 5 Lakeshore Drive demolition, picks Hosmer House archivist

SUDBURY — January 20, 2026 — Sudbury Historical Commission clears Lakeshore Drive demolition and selects Hosmer House archivist. Under the town's Demolition Delay Bylaw, the commission voted 7-0 that the garage and side wing slated for removal at 5 Lakeshore Drive are post-1940 additions and not historically significant, clearing the way for owner Philip Burke's mudroom expansion. Member William S. Andreas called the addition "clearly late '70s, maybe early '80s." The commission also voted 6-0 to select the Sudbury Historical Society as Hosmer House archivist on a $39,000 budget, with members Stephen Greenstein and Andreas recused for conflicts of interest. A proposed Florence Hosmer exhibit at the parsonage was set aside until a collections management policy is adopted. The commission separately authorized up to $1,050 to print 12 copies of the Phase 5 historic resources inventory.
