Goodnow trustees back new ebook hold-clearing model and plan music CD phase-out
SUDBURY — March 3, 2026 — Goodnow Library trustees endorse cost-per-circ ebooks and a six-month music CD phase-out. At the April 7 meeting, the library director reported that a $1,745 reference-staff pilot purchased eight high-demand titles under a cost-per-circ model, clearing 276 holds in roughly a day and a half at $2 to $4 per checkout versus about $80 for a standard ebook license. The 2,457-disc music CD collection — 48 percent of which has not circulated in a year and 271 of which are over 20 years old — will be deaccessioned over six months, with shelving redeployed in the new-book area. The historical room renovation, funded by a Bradshaw family gift through the Goodnow Library Foundation, begins in late March for a May finish. The operating budget is 67 percent spent. Trustees, chaired by Ingrid Mayyasi with Megan Kelley absent, set May's meeting for May 12 because of Town Meeting and agreed to begin the library director's first annual review — a joint process with Town Manager Andy Sheehan under a 2017 MOU — at the April meeting.
