Former Select Board Member Hazelton Seeks Return to Board in May Election

WESTFORD — April 13, 2026 — Former Westford Select Board member Scott Hazelton is seeking the one-year seat vacated by John Cunningham in the May 5 town election. Hazelton, a 12-year board veteran and economist specializing in construction and building materials markets, delivered a candidate statement on Westford's community access TV arguing against a Proposition 2½ override until the town's free cash reserve — which he said exceeds 5 percent of the recommended budget — is fully deployed. He proposed using artificial intelligence to streamline payroll, procurement, energy monitoring, and building security, and called for higher permitting and inspection fees to offset costs from anticipated MBTA Communities Act development. Hazelton also touted his role as vice chair of the Permanent Town Building Committee, crediting that panel with delivering the Center Fire headquarters and dispatch center on time and under budget.
