Finance Committee declines to recommend Route 20 housing zoning article
WAYLAND — April 13, 2026 — Wayland Finance Committee declines to recommend Route 20 multi-family housing zoning article. On a 1-3-2 roll call, members rejected Vice Chair Carl Barnes's motion to recommend Article 25 as written, with Barnes, Iris Hoxha and Pam Roman voting no and Phil Giudice and William Huss abstaining. Economic Development Committee Chair Rebecca Stanizzi told the committee her board voted unanimously to push for a stepped-massing amendment, warning the current zoning could yield "a five-story building, five residential floors over a half-garage" unlike anything in town. The panel separately voted 6-0 to transfer $18,000 from the Reserve Fund for unforeseen liability and workers' compensation costs, including a roughly $41,000 retroactive workers' comp audit adjustment and unbudgeted insurance for the Council on Aging community center.
