Conservation Commission Approves Bellevue Pond Dam Repair Order With Conditions

MEDFORD — February 18, 2026 — Medford Conservation Commission clears Bellevue Pond dam repair and closes out Eversource transmission line filing. The commission voted unanimously at its February 18 meeting to issue an order of conditions for the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation's Bellevue Pond Dam Rehabilitation Project, DEP file 215-0245, which calls for replacing a deteriorating concrete spillway base, reconstructing the stone weir and stop-log structure in kind, and stabilizing eroding slopes along Floyd's Brook within the Middlesex Fells Reservation. GZA GeoEnvironmental's Joe Rogers and engineer Anders von Garngard presented the project; DCR representative Krista Kirk participated remotely. The commission attached several pre-construction submittal requirements, including a dewatering control plan, a bank restoration detail, and a compensatory planting plan for trees to be removed, and capped allowable impacts at 913 square feet of temporary impact to land underwater and 810 square feet of permanent impact. In a separate unanimous vote, the commission issued a certificate of compliance for Eversource Energy's 115-kilovolt transmission line installation, DEP file 215-0210, after Amanda Kuhl of Tyn Bond presented post-construction photo documentation and stamped as-built drawings showing full restoration of the Winthrop Street Community Garden area and Mystic River crossing.
