Billerica 250th Committee Approves $3,600 for Liberty Tree, Books, and Veterans Cookout

BILLERICA — April 14, 2026 — Billerica's 250th Anniversary Committee approved $3,600 in spending at its April 14 meeting, anchored by a Liberty Tree planting and a commemorative ad book print run. Committee member Chris Sennett detailed the Liberty Tree project: a 45-foot white elm to be planted on the Town Common on April 21, with a formal dedication ceremony set for May 23, at a net cost to the committee of $1,000 — the remainder covered by the Billerica Colonial Minutemen, donated labor from Amato Excavation, and a three-year arborist monitoring commitment from ArborJet. The committee voted unanimously to allot up to $1,000 for hardcover ad book copies and a separate $1,500 for approximately 300 paperback copies, targeting a May 7 delivery for Town Meeting distribution. Members also voted 8-0 to donate $1,000 to a Korean War veterans cookout planned for late July, and unanimously approved planting a committee time capsule at the base of the new Liberty Tree.
