Acton Closes Town Offices Friday for Juneteenth as Free Celebration Planned at Library Grounds

ACTON — Acton will observe Juneteenth with a free community celebration Friday afternoon and a town-wide shutdown, while residents have a chance this evening to weigh in on a significant road redesign on Central Street.

TOWN HALL

The town announced a community Juneteenth celebration set for Friday, June 19, from 1 to 4 p.m., beginning at Acton Congregational Church and continuing on the grounds of Acton Memorial Library. Town offices, all municipal buildings, and the Transfer Station will be closed for the day in observance of the federal and state holiday.

Tonight, Thursday, June 18, the Department of Public Works is hosting a public open house at 7 p.m. to present and discuss a preliminary Complete Street design for Central Street between Main Street and Martin Street. The session is an opportunity for residents to review proposed road improvements and offer feedback before the project advances.

The previous evening, Wednesday, June 17, MassDOT held a design public hearing at Town Hall, Room 204, focused on safety improvements along Great Road (Route 2A/119). No outcome details were included in the town's posting.

Looking further ahead, the town announced its 2026 Independence Day Celebration for Wednesday, July 2, at NARA Park. Gates open at 4 p.m. with food vendors, inflatables, free beach access, and games. Live music begins at 8 p.m., followed by a laser light show. The event is free and open to all.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Juneteenth celebration on Friday draws the community to two anchoring sites — Acton Congregational Church and the Acton Memorial Library grounds — for a 1-to-4 p.m. program. The library will be closed that day in observance.
